Saddle Fit

USE THIS FOR CREST RIDGE SADDLE MEASUREMENTS.
We can only do a good fitting if you supply us with accurate information and good quality photos! It is important that you follow all instructions carefully and that you have an area that is flat and well lighted to take photos of your horse to send us. We have to have 2 measurements and photos with the horse's head in an upright position while he is standing SQUARE!

  1. The horse MUST be standing square at all times during the measurement, photo taking process.
  2. The wire MUST be against the skin of the horse, pressing down through the coat depth.
  3. The wire MUST be located behind the scapula and be making contact through out the 16" length.
THEN follow these procedures:
  • Get a coat hanger, fencing wire or the coated copper wire from a hardware store and cut it to EXACTLY 16"
  • Mark the center of the wire at the 8" mark with a magic marker or a drop of fingernail polish.
  • The tree should sit immediately behind the horse's scapula, not over it. (Although it is fine if the leather part of the saddle extends over it.) So we must have the measurement of the withers IN BACK OF THE SCAPULA. To find the scapula, walk beside your horse with your hand on the shoulder as someone leads him. As the horse moves, the scapula rotates about its axis, and you should be able to feel and see it. Find the "Back edge" to align the wire on the withers to make your measurement.
  • Place the wire with the center mark on top of the horse's withers, where the wire would be BEHIND the scapula.
  • Form the wire to the horses shape and gently lift it from the horse when you are sure it is correct.
  • Measure the distance from tip to tip.
  • Take the wire and place it on a piece of graphing paper.
  • Trace the wire contours onto the graphing paper.
  • At the point where the wire breached the top of the wither measure straight down 3 inches and then measure straight across between the 2 points and this will give you the actual gullet measurement that you will need for your saddle.
